Japanese Black Tea or Koucha in Japanese, started to become popular and boomed in Japan after World War Two. At that time, quite a number of Japanese tea farmers cultivated it. However, once the Japanese market opened up to cheaper imported black tea the market price dropped. Unfortunately, Japanese tea farmers couldn’t compete and stopped producing it.
However, today, Japanese black tea’s domestic demand is gradually increasing and it is on the come back trail. Many Japanese tea farmers, especially organic ones, are becoming more interested in cultivating it again.
Yuuki-Cha now carries both first and second flush organic Japanese black tea. All first flush organic black teas offered through Yuuki-Cha are LIMITED handpicked offerings from the famed black tea production area known as Makurazaki which is in Kagoshima prefecture! |
