David B. - 04/20/2010 Brewing the Kagoshima oolong is a very unique and pleasing experience. Since there weren't any brewing instructions in the product description I used the 4 ounce Kurumatsu kyuusu by Gyokko (also purchased at Yuuki-Cha), porcelain cups, and 195 degree spring water. All three infusions were about 90 seconds. This Japanese oolong has qualities that are similar to high quality aged and high-fired oolongs from Taiwan. The roasted taste is evident but not overpowering, as is the moderate astringency which could be tamed by cooler water if anyone finds that quality undesireable. I like the extra bite achieved with the hotter water. Although there are many great oolongs in this price range the Kagoshima is rather unique and holds its own quite well against the others. It is a high quality oolong that is also organic and from Japan, two things that most other oolongs can't claim. For those who like their oolongs in small batches, the Kagoshima gives great brewing results when used with the 4 ounce Kurumatsu kyuusu by Gyokko. |
Michelle R. - 08/24/2009 I'm a big fan of Oolong tea. It's the kind of tea I drink the most. And yet, this is the first time I taste one so peculiar. This tea is unique and is a rare delicacy. |
