Kuromatsu Tokoname Teapot

A very popular and genuine handmade (tetsukuri) Kuromatsu Tokoname teapot by Tokoname craftsman Gyokko, with a capacity of approximately 120ml (4oz), that is particularly good for making small volume Japanese green teas such as gyokuro or high grade sencha. One of Gyokko's very finest small sized teapots, and one that will have you brewing up great tasting high quality green teas in no time at all!

Very nice gyokko-tokoname. Nice clay content. Perfect size for gyoku-ro. Hope Yuuki-cha will get more small size pots.

I am very surprised that such a great little handmade kyuusu sells for only $40. It is meticulously crafted in a way I would expect to see at higher price levels. I normally avoid metal filters but I wanted a small kyuusu to brew the Japanese oolong I also purchased from Yuuki-Cha. I thought this 4 ounce Tokoname by Gyokku would be very suitable. The Gkokko Kuromatsu worked flawlessly but if overfilled leaf may get between the lid and the rim of the pot, which will cause leaking. This is a common problem with low, flat kyuusu even with some very expensive ones. Filling the Gyokko to slightly below the rim will easily remedy this. Having the Obi-ami (wrap-around metal filter) makes brewing with this little gem a clog-free experience and the pour is still quick even though the spout opening is very small. The Kuromatsu kyuusu by Gyokku is a very functional piece of handcrafted teaware at a bargain basement price. A great value and highly recommended!
