Presented here is a very special Kinu Shudei Kyusu on a genuine 100% natural Kinu Shudei clay quite different than your everyday red clay Tokoname teapot!

The difference.....

The difference between genuine Shudei teapots which use a specific type of natural shudei clay and cheaper red Japanese teapots that utilize bengara (red earth pigment) is that a genuine Kinu Shudei teapot is silky to touch and has a more natural appearance. Both genuine shudei clay and cheaper red clay teapots are fine to use and enjoy green tea from. However, a Kinu Shudei teapot is considered to be a much more prestigious brewing vessel!

The clay.....

Shudei clay has a high mineral content which is partly responsible for the delicious taste when brewing green tea in Shudei teapots! When tested with loose leaf green tea, Kinu Shudei clay extracted upto 10 times less astringent components than other brewing vessels such as porcelain and glass etc.!

The teapot.....

The appearance and shape of this particular teapot is quite stunning! The silky clay is a joy to view and the additional elegant touches around the spout and handle joining them to the teapot finishes it off wonderfully. It also has an excellent sasame ceramic mesh!
