A very fine grade of organic matcha green tea from Shizuoka appropriately named “Iroka” meaning “color and scent” in Japanese. Made from the tea breed Saemidori! Iroka, is an outstanding, vibrant green matcha tea that is very tasty, has an uplifting full aroma, plentiful flavor, and is completely non-bitter. Produces a wonderful deep green liquor and when whisked froths up very thick and creamy!

About Saemidori - Saemidori cultivar is a cross between Yabukita and Asatsuyu that was developed, researched, and tested from around the 1970's. In 1990, it was finally registered, and is now successfully cultivated for the production of matcha, gyokuro, and high quality sencha in a number of tea growing regions of Japan. It is generally cultivated by organic tea farmers that, above all, seek to cultivate superior quality green tea.

Packaging - 50g (yes, 50g!!) of organic matcha, supplied in a stand-up re-sealable pouch for ease of use and handling. For the consumer, this packaging method is one of the best for maintaining the freshness of the matcha as consuming!

Very fresh and well rounded Matcha. This is a bit more earthy than others I have tried but I liked that. It has a stronger taste in the back of the mouth.

This is a very balanced matcha, with equal sweet and bite. It has a much more robust character than the other matchas I've had. I think it's a great choice for someone who likes a strong well-rounded matcha and drinks it every day. I personally prefer a milder matcha, though.

The Iroka is my first matcha purchase. It arrived accompanied by a wonderfully detailed instruction sheet. Preparing the tea, step-by-step, beginning with the choice of a bowl is a pleasure all the way. The matcha powder is silky soft (like talc) and a lovely fresh green. Whisked with hot water, the colour intensifies, concentrated earthy flavours and aromas result and most astonishingly, the tea has a velvety, almost cocoa-like richness. After enjoying tea for many years, this is a new experience and one I will enjoy sharing. A borrowed whisk did the job, but I can imagine that the finer Yuuki-cha whisks would produce a smoother, denser froth.

A very good organic matcha! The matcha Iroka is very fresh, has good aroma and a very deep green color. It froths easily when whisked and without lumping.
