From the summer harvest, a limited oolong-black tea from Gokase Town in Miyazaki, which is made from the seemingly versatile Sakimidori cultivar.

The combination of summer harvest leaves and a longer oxidization time than your typical oolong tea really helps to develop the wonderful fragrances of this unique tea. The whole leaves when brewed offer a delicate ambrosial honey-like sweetness that is rounded and succulent in the mouth, and a perfectly smooth finish with basically no astringency at all. Perhaps the nicest of all the oolong-blacks we were lucky enough to sample from the 2011 harvest and one we are very happy to offer!

Brewing Suggestion
Steep Leaf-Water Ratio Water Temperature Infusion Time
1-2 0.6g-0.75g/1oz 95°C/203°F 40 seconds
3 - 95°C/203°F 60 seconds
4+ - 95°C/203°F 3-5 minutes
After brewing this tea at varying brewing parameters we found a few short infusions with around 3g of leaf and 4oz/120ml of water at 95°C/203°F to really show off this teas delicate honey-like sweetness. After 3 steeps we enjoyed increasing the brewing time.

This is a very unique tea; the hybrid of oolong with black is quite unlike any other leaf I've had. It brews into a beautiful amber liquor that is mild and buttery. There is a subtle spice undercurrent that reminds me of Chai tea, however much more delicate than that. Also humming throughout is a delicate, flowery note, which to me evokes Makurazaki Black Tea Hime Fuki (another fantastic Yuuki-Cha offering). Try it, you'll like it.

Unlike any oolong (or black) tea I've ever tried, the dry leaf recalls the scent of sweet spices like nutmeg, cinnamon or cardamom. Brewed tea is warming and aromatic with a succulent, honey-like flavour, especially when following the Yuuki-Cha suggestion of short multiple infusions. The finish is long and pleasantly refreshing with absolutely no bitterness; the transparent, burnt orange colour is beautiful in the cup. The other oolong-black listing, Minami Sayaka, also sounds very tempting.
