NOTE: If you order this sencha now, you'll receive 2012 shincha (new harvest tea)!

This particular organic green tea, entitled Kirishima No Kaori (Fragrance of Kirishima), is a high quality light steamed asamushi sencha hailing from the famous mountainous area of Kirishima in Kagoshima Prefecture. It's made from a select lot of first harvest young Spring Yabukita leaves cultivated, processed, and packaged at the one long established, organic, family owned, tea plantation in the mountains of Kirishima. The following is an image of the actual Yabukita tea garden where Kirishima No Kaori is cultivated:

Needless to say, this organic sencha has a naturally high quality taste and a beautiful fresh tea fragrance of the mountains. Its liquor is a clear bright yellow color which is indicative of a sencha that has been lighter steamed. It's soft and gentle tasting, yet also has wonderful rich sweet complexities running throughout and a lively refreshing slightly zesty piquant aftertaste. Little astringency, perfectly smooth, it's an exceptionally fine example of high quality organically cultivated lighter steamed sencha from the mountains of Kirishima, Kagoshima, Japan!

Origin Information
Kirishima
Kirishima is a very famous mountainous area in Kagoshima Prefecture that produces excellent quality organic green teas. Although, most tea drinkers are familiar with Kagoshima for its modern day deep steamed fukamushi green teas made from breeds such as Yutaka Midori, Sae Midori, and Asatsuyu etc., a few expert growers in the mountains of Kirishima are well-known for maintaining a more traditional tea approach and produce organic lighter steamed teas to a very high quality standard that are both highly aromatic and excellent in taste.

Fresh bright very sweet raw leaf aroma. To my surprise the brew is different than the scent of the dry leaf :) The brew is a clear light yellow, good sign of a top quality asamushi sencha. Tea is smooth with a subtle sweet nut undertone. One of the best asamushi I have tried in a long time.
