Organic Kumamoto Yabe Hojicha is an excellent kuki-style hojicha which means it is made predominantly from stems, but includes a portion of leaves, too. The stems and leaves are not just any old leaf material from any old harvest though, they are the stems and leaves that were carefully sorted from the first flush in Spring with the intention to make this tea, and were harvested from the same tea bushes that were used to make high quality first flush organic sencha.

The excellent quality leaf material used, and the roast that the grower employed on this hojicha, makes for one very aromatic, hearty, robust hojicha! It's a full spectrum organic hojicha that offers all the goodness and the life force of the mountains just like all of the teas we get from the mountainous region of Kumamoto!

Toasty and full bodied Hojicha with beautiful colour and a lingering sweet flavour. Surprising notes of coffee and cinnamon!

I love the other Kumamoto Yabe tea I bought from you guys, a delicate and fern-like shiraore. However, I must confess I found this particular hojicha a bit overwhelming for my taste. Perhaps it's an issue of what you'd call an "otona no aji" ("adult flavor")? I think I'll try another variety from Yuuki-cha's inventory.

Kumamoto Yabe is a superior hojicha and the best I've had so far. Infused for 2 minutes, it has a deep brown-amber color and is very flavorful, yet it has a light consistency which is very refreshing. This is a great tasting hojicha with no bitterness when served hot and I believe it would also make a great iced tea for the summer.
