An excellent organic Shizuoka matcha green tea appropriately named “Sakuraka” due to its fine resemblance in aroma to the leaf of the Japanese cherry tree (Sakura). If you've ever had the Japanese confectionery "Sakura Mochi" (a pink rice cake wrapped by a cherry tree leaf), you'll recognize the resemblence immediately.

A rare systematic numbered breed “Shizu-7132” is the cultivar used to produce this organic matcha. The natural composition of this breed is responsible for the unusual yet very desirable cherry tree leaf characteristic which is best discovered in the aroma when preparing the matcha and, very commonly missed, the retronasal aroma when the matcha passes through the throat. Sakuraka is a very distinctive organic matcha tea, and one that offers both a unique and captivating drinking experience!

Packaging - 50g (yes, 50g!!) of organic matcha, supplied in a stand-up re-sealable pouch for ease of use and handling. For the consumer, this packaging method is one of the best for maintaining the freshness of the matcha as consuming!

I drink usucha almost everyday and this is my favorite. Really delicate and smooth without any clumps. Although I grew up drinking tea, I find most green tea variety to be too strong and prefer only hints of "grassy" and "umami" but this is very lovely to drink.

I believe this is the first Shizuoka matcha I've had but it won't be the last! This matcha does indeed have a unique and very pleasant aroma and taste. It was unlike any matcha I've had before. It whisked easily with a very fine foam on the top and no lumps or clumps. The smooth, sweet taste and unique "cherry leaf" aroma make this a very enjoyable matcha and at a low enough price that it may even qualify as an "everyday" matcha for many. Another great offering from Yuuki-cha at a very affordable price.
