NOTE: If you order this sencha now, you'll receive 2012 shincha (new harvest tea)!

A high quality first harvest organic sencha green tea that comes from Yamato, Kamimashiki District, Kumamoto Prefecture on the island of Kyushu, Japan. Originally the town were this organic tea garden is located was known as Yabe Town, therefore the tea that came from that area was (and still is) known as Yabe-Cha, hence this tea is known as Yabe-Cha. However in 2005 Yabe Town merged with a few other villages and towns to form a new town known as Yamato, so it no longer really exists, but we're happy the tea still does because this is one of the finest organic sencha that we have ever had the pleasure of selling here at Yuuki-Cha!

Grown in an isolated spot between mountains at 500m above sea level. Deep morning mist, ideal temperature differences between day and night, and the special Japanese cultivar known as Saemidori that is cultivated on the farm gives this organic sencha its outstanding, distinctive flavor and boundless lingering aftertaste that any real connoisseur of Japanese green tea would recognize instantly. An all round winner, and highly recommended!

Below the pictures show the tranquil small-scale tea garden in Yamato, Kamimashiki District, Kumamoto Prefecture. The tea bushes are extremely well cared for here, and sit at an elevation of roughly 500m in a very secluded mountainous area of Kumamoto. The land drains well with mountain spring water running through it, and the soil is richly fertile due to many years of organic farming. It really is the perfect spot for growing high quality organic sencha without any need whatsoever for chemical fertilizers or pesticides:

Cultivar Information
Saemidori
Saemidori cultivar is a cross between Yabukita and Asatsuyu that was developed, researched, and tested from around the 1970's. In 1990, it was finally registered, and is now successfully cultivated for the production of matcha, gyokuro, and high quality sencha in a number of tea growing regions of Japan. It is generally cultivated by organic tea farmers that, above all, seek to cultivate superior quality green tea.

Starting with a pungent scent of the dry leaf, this sencha promises full flavour and follows through with each infusion. The green-gold tea is nutty and sweet with lots of depth.

I drink sencha quite a lot and am very happy to buy this over many others I have tried from Japan. I guess I keep coming back to it because it has a unique and delicious taste that never fails to satisfy, very refreshing also.

This sencha has a lot of character. No undesirable taste at all. Very nutrient-dense green tea.

Thanks for the quick transit from Japan! I must say, the two teas are both excellent in the quality of flavor. The similar buttery undertones that I found in your shizuoka gyokuro I also found in this. I love to drink it in the morning. It resteeps 3-4, sometimes I can even go 5.

One of my favorite senchas! Not as astringent as others I have tried. Superb flavor!

I highly recommend this tea. I can easily get a good 4 steeps out of it. Nice whole leaves too. No tea dust.

It is really the one of the finest organic sencha that I have ever had.
