This organic Uji gyokuro karigane comes from a genuine shade grown suspended Tana covered tea plantation in Kyoto (not to be confused with direct kabuse covered tea gardens) which consists of only stems and attached leaf material that were sorted during the processing of authentic organic gyokuro.
Genuine versions of organic gyokuro karigane like this one are super rare, highly prized, and very difficult to come by because, for one, there are only a very few growers that actually make real organic gyokuro in Japan, and two, growers usually keep it to consume among their family and friends and very seldom place it on the market.
Not only is this fine tea a rarity, but it's also deliciously and uniquely sweet, theanine-rich, aromatic and produces a liquor that is a beautiful shade of green. In addition, it's not such a difficult tea to brew, has a wide brewing spectrum, and will brew well at many varying brewing temperatures. A highly recommend organic green tea!
BREWING GYOKURO GREEN TEA.....
To get the best out of gyokuro it's preferable to use a high leaf-to-water ratio and a lower steeping temperature than normal. A good starting point for this gyokuro is as follows, you can adjust from here (for one cup):
NOTE: Please make sure to preheat your teacup and teapot. For gyokuro a houhin is the preferable brewing vessel.
Amount of leaf: 5 grams
Water Volume: 80/2.7oz-100ml/3.3oz
Water Temperature: 60°C/140°F-65°C/149°F
Infusion time: 60 seconds.
For the second and beyond steeps, please step up the temperature by a few degrees each steep to maintain the flavor and increase steep times from a flash second steep to longer subsequent steeps. This organic gyokuro will produce many infusions from the same leaf!

An interesting, very delicate and subtle Gyokuro. This is the epitome of Japanese green tea subtlety. It reminds me of my stay in Kyoto. It's just all around great.

This is a fantastic, delicious, and beautiful tea. It's sweet and refreshing with a very clean mouth-feel. It's also a very hardy tea; I've managed to use the same leaves throughout the day for several infusions. This is an excellent tea for the price.

This tea has a very unique flavor that is diffcult to describe. Not quite like gyokuro and not like sencha either. The unbrewed leaves and stems look very good and are quite uniform and very fresh. The gyokuro karigane is sweet tasting when brewed with lower temperature water per the instructions in the product description, and has a very refreshing taste which is especially suitable for iced tea in hot weather. At the low price this tea is offered for, you can't go wrong.
