NOTE: If you order this sencha now, you'll receive 2012 shincha (new harvest tea)!

Magokoro, a first harvest 100% yutaka midori organic Kagoshima fukamushi sencha, is a great reflection of what organic green tea is all about. Light, refreshing, uplifting and tasty all rolled into one. A very well thought out green tea that has taken many years of experimenting with soil combinations and different organic farming techniques to reach this stage. If you are looking for a genuine high quality organic fukamushi sencha then we would recommend that you start right here!

What is Fukamushi Sencha?

Fukamushi-Cha is deep steamed sencha. The longer steaming process gives fukamushi its notable characteristics. The dry leaf smells sweet, the brewed tea takes on a thick cloudy appearance, and the taste is sweeter and deeper than regularly steamed sencha. On the negative side, fukamushi is considered by some to be inelegant because the dry leaf is mostly broken up due to the longer steaming. However, on the positive side, this results in many tiny leaf particles making their way into the brewed tea, and when organically cultivated this makes for a very healthy cup of green tea!

There is a slight hint of bitterness when steeping this at 70C/60s but this is by far overpowered by quite an overwhelming floral aroma. There is now no astringency whatsoever that I can detect. As a beginner just starting out with sencha (have had sencha before, but this is the first one I've bought) I feel this was a very good introduction that really does show what the world of Japanese tea has to offer and I find myself burning through this bag all too quickly.

The Yuuki-Cha text has it right - Magokoro is a good place to start with organic sencha. It's a smooth pleasant tea, yet does have plenty of character and flavour. No astringency or bitterness, even if you brew a bit too long and sweetness that lasts through several infusions.

Just received my order today and could not wait to try this one...I was very impressed, absolutely amazing tea! No astringency at all, just an almost sweet and creamy taste, my new favorite.

Interesting. It's really sweet, reminds me of Kabusecha a lot (like Yuuki-Cha's Asahina Kabusecha). A must for green tea fans.

Wow! This tea is awesome and intense. This is one of the very best sencha's I've had. The aroma is amazing from both the dry and brewed leaf which surprises me as this tea was harvested almost a year ago. I can't wait to try the 2010 shincha. It is also much greener than most sencha and the combination of color, aroma, and taste is hard to beat, especially at this bargain price! This is a great selection and a great deal which I recommend without hesitation to anyone who likes deep-steamed sencha.
