Offering a unique green tea experience, Organic Benifuuki Sencha, cultivated in the renowned tea growing region of Kirishima in Kagoshima.
Benifuuki cultivar was originally developed for black tea production in Japan, and makes for a very nice black tea due to its high levels of catechin. However, in recent years it has also become quite popular as green tea due to the fact that when processed as green tea, Benifuuki retains its rich concentration of methylated catechins (lost during the fermentation process of black tea), compounds known for potentially suppressing the release of histamine, thereby alleviating allergy-related symptoms.
A delightful clear tasting lightly steamed tea which provides a gentle and refreshing experience on the palate. However, the presence of elevated catechin levels significantly contributes to the tea's astringent finish.
